AnKou/Lest We Forget/Ft Tahazu/2022 Single Review

 

  France's  solo  project  AnKou  has  returned  with  a  new  single  which  also  futures  Tahazu  and  goes  for  an  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal  and  the  sing  was  self  released  in  2022  and  called "Lest  We  Forget".

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  song  which  is  also  over  8  minutes  in  length  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  as  well  as  some  spoken  word  parts  and  keyboards  also  being  utilized  briefly.

  On  this  single  AnKou  brings  in  more  of  an  atmospheric  and  mid  tempo  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  AnKou  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  single.  8  out  of  10.

AnKou/Confessions Of Purgatory/Ft Tahazu/2019 Single Review

  France's  AnKou  has  returned  with  a  new  song  which  is  in  more  of  an  atmospheric  direction  and  features   Tahazu  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2019 single  "Confessions  Of  Purgatory".

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  track  along  with  a  mixture  of  clear  vocals  and  grim  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  takes  the  music  into  a  heavier  direction.  The  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  some  spoken  word  parts  also  being  used  briefly,  melodic  guitar  solos  are  also  used  in  some  parts  and  the  music  and  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  song  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.

  On  this  track  AnKou  brings  in  more  of  a  melodic  and  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal  with  a  touch  of  death  metal. The  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  AnKou  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  emtal,  you  should  check  out  this  single.  8  out  of  10.

AnKou/1984 - The Eyes Are Upon You Ft Tahazu/2019 Single Review

  France's  solo  project  has  returned  with  a  new  track  which  is  in  the  atmospheric  style  of  black metal  and  features  Tahazu  as  a  special quest  on  vocals  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2019  single  "!984  _  The  Eyes  Are  Upon  You".

  Spoken  word,  war  and  movie  samples  start  off  the  track  before  adding  in  some  acoustic  guitars  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  deep  yet  depressive  black  metal  screams  that  also  get  very  high  pitched  at  times  while  the  riffs  also  use  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  The  music  sticks  to  mostly  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction  along  with  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  when  the  music  speeds  up  while  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  for  being  a  self  released  track  while  the  lyrics  are  based  upon  George  Orwell's  dystopian  novel  "1984'.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  AnKou  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  single.  8  out  of  10.

AnKou/HMS Terror Ft. Skyggefigurrer/2018 Single Review

  France's  solo  project  AnKou  has  returned  with  a  new  track  which  continues  his  ambient  style  of  black  metal  and  introduces  Skyggefigurrer  on  vocals  and  this  is  a  review  of his  self released  2018  singer  "HMS  Terror".

  Ambient  orientated  soundscapes  and  synths  start  off  the  track  and  also  mix  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  while  whispers  are  also  used  briefly  along  with  the  music  also  mixing  in  a  great  amount  of  grim  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  death  metal  growls,  the  riffs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  towards  the  end  acoustic  guitars  and  clean  vocals  are  utilized.

  On  this  track  AnKou  remains  true  to  his  ambient  style  of  black  metal  while  the  vocals  of  Skyggefigurrer  add  in  a  touch  of  death  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes.

AnKou/AnKourea/2017 Single Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  single  from  France's  AnKou  which  which  shows  a  melodic  style  of  black  metal  with  some  death  metal  elements  from  previous tracks  and  the  song  is  called  "AnKourea"  and  features  Skyggefigurrer.

  Nursery  rhyme  samples  start  off  the  track  along  with  some  heavy  guitar  riffs  and  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later as  well  a s some  death  metal  growls  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sound  very  powerful  and  the  track  is  6  minutes  in  length  and  also  brings  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  spoken  word  parts  are  also  used  briefly  and  there  is  also  a  small  amount  of  melodic  guitar  leads  and  clean  playing.

  AnKou  goes  for  more  of  a  melodic  black  metal  approach  on  this  track  while  also  adding  in  touches  of  death  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  violent  themes.

AnKou/L'Affaire des Vivants/2017 Single Review

This  is  a  review  of  another  track  from  AnKou  which  is  also  in  the  atmospheric  direction  of  pagan/black  metal  and  the  song  is  called  "L'Affaire  des  Vivants".

  Acoustic  guitars  start  off  the  track  along  with  some  Native  American  style  shamanistic  chanting  and  the  music  also  mixes  in  elements  of  post  rock  and  after  awhile  heavy  guitars  and  female  vocals  are  added  into  the  music  briefly  before  adding  in  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  melodic  guitar  leads  and  spoken  word  parts  are  also  used  briefly.

  On  this  track  AnKou  goes  for  more  of  an  atmospheric  style  of  post  black  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  focus  on  Iroquois  Native  American  Mythology.

  AnKou  are  a  solo  project  from  France  that  plays  a  nature  and  pagan  orientated  from  of  ambient  black  metal  and  this is  a  review  of  the  tracks  he  has  self  released  on both bandcamp  and  facebook so far.

  Clean  playing  and  exotic  style  female  vocals  start  off  the  track  along  with  some  elements  of  post  rock  which  is  also  mixed  in  with  ambient  style  synths  and  after  awhile heavy guitars  a added  onto  the  recording  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard and  melodic  chants  along  with  war  and  spoken  word  samples  also  being  used  briefly.

  Spoken  word  samples  and  nature  sounds  start  off  the  track  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  riffs  a  few  seconds  later  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion.

  AnKou  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  pagan,  black  metal,  ambient  and  post  rock  and  mixes  them together  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own  while  the  production  gives  the  songs  a  dark  atmosphere.

  In  my  opinion  AnKou  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  ambient,  pagan  and  black  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  8  out  of  10.
