Funeral Storm/Chthonic Invocations/Hells Headbangers Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Greece's  Funeral  Storm  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  old  school  form  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Chthonic  Invocations"  which  will  be  released  on  May  10th  by  Hells  Headbangers  Records.

  Keyboards  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  black  metal  screams  which  mix  both  the  first  and  second  wave  together  while  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in t he  90's  era  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  old  school  style  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  atmospheric  sounding  along  with  the  keyboards  also  mixing  in  with  some  of  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs,  all  of  the  drum  beats  are  also  programmed  and  ritualistic  chants  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  the  closing  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars.   

  On  this  recording  Funeral  Storm  goes  for  more  of  an  atmospheric  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and r aw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  the  Writings  Of  H.P  Lovecraft. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Funeral  Storm  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  old  school  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Behold  The  Dark"  and  "The  Covenant  of  Old".  8  out  of  10.

Funeral Storm/Synteleia/The Ancient Calling/Hells Headbangers/2021 Split EP Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Greece's  Funeral  Storm  and  Synteleia  called  "The  Ancient  Calling"  which  will  be  released  on  March  31st  by  Hells  Headbangers  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Funeral  Storm  who  return  with  an  old  school  Hellenic  occult  black  metal  style.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  choirs  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  Greek  style.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  their  side  of  the  recording  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

 The  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  song  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Horror  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Funeral  Storm  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  Hellenic  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  Next  up  is  Synteleia  who  return  with  their  old  school  style  of  Hellenic  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark,  heavy  and  90's  Greek  style  sound  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  some  keyboards  also  being  utilized  briefly,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Cthulho  Mytho  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Synteleia  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  Hellenic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  Greek  black  metal.

Funeral Storm/Arcane Mysteries/Hells Headbangers/2019 CD Review

  Funeral  Storm  are  a  band  from  Greece  that  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Arcane  Mysteries"  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  Hells Headbangers.

  Ritualistic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  a  few  seconds  later.  Clean  playing  and  classical  guitars  can  also  be heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  Greek  style. Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  keyboards  and  spoken  word  parts  also  making  a  return  on  some  of  the  later  tracks.  One  of  the  later  songs  is  an  instrumental  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  rain  and  thunder  sounds  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism,  legends,  myths,  evil,  mystery  horror  and  Cthulhu  Mythos.

  In  my  opinion  Funeral  Storm  are  a  very  great  sounding  occult  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ego  Sum  Filius  Draconis"  "Necromancer"  and  "From  The  Great  Deep  Waters  Of  Primordial  Creation".  8/5  out  of  10.
