Dodsferd/Wrath/Hypnotic Dirge Records/Fucking Your Creation Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Greece's  Dodsferd  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  raw,  misanthropic  and  depressive  from  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Wrath"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Hypnotic  Dirge  and  Fucking  Your  Creation  Records.

  

   Violent  samples  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  heavy  90's  influenced  direction  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  emtal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  

  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  depressive  moments  and  the  whole  album  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  

  On  this  recording  Dodsferd  brings  out  a  very  raw,  misanthropic,  depressive  and  traditional  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  social  and  economic  consequences  of  capitalism,  political  corruption,  ecocide,  and  the  largest  argument  against  all  our  civility  -  warfare.

  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Dodsferd  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Decay  Of  Sanity"  and  "Heaven  Drops  With  Human  Filth".  8  out  of  10.

Dodsferd/Skotos/Transcending Obscurity Records/2021 EP Review

 

  Greece's  duo  Dodsferd  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric,  depressive  and  misanthropic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  ep  "Skotos"  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  Transcending  Obscurity  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  a  small  amount  of  melody  is  also  added  into  the  guitar  riffing.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  The  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  as  well  as  all  of  the  music  also  sticking  to  a  heavier  musical  direction.

  On  this  recording  Dodsferd  adds  in  atmospheric  guitar  leads  into  their  raw,  depressive  and  misanthropic  style  of  black  metal  to  take  their  sound  to  another  level.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  misanthropy,  death  and  suicide  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dodsferd  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  duo,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Cursed  To  Die  At  First  Light".  8  out  of  10.

Dodsferd/Diseased Remnants Of A Dying World/Transcending Obscurity Records/2018 CD Review

  Greece's  Dodsferd  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  raw  and  depressive  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Diseased  Remnants  Of  A  Dying  World"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Transcending  Obscurity  Records.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodic  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  while  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  all  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Clean  vocals  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music  while  black  metal  screams a re  still  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  music  also  bringing  in a   great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  as  well  as  the  tracks  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  at  times  the  music  gets  very  depressive  sounding  and  shouts  are  also brought  into  some  parts  of  the  recording  and  stringed  instruments  and  spoken  words  are  used  on  the  closing  track.

  On  this  recording  Dodsferd  still  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  depressive  sounding  while  also  showing  a  great  amount  of  progress  as  musicians  and  taking  their  sound  to  a  different  level,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  anguish,  hopeless,  melancholy,  despair  and  a  contempt  for  humanity.

  In  my  opinion  this is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Dodsferd  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "An  Existence  Without  Purpose"  and  "Loyal  To  The  Black  Oath".  8 out  of  10.

Dodsferd/Death Set The Beginning Of My Journey/Moribund Records/2008 CD Review

  Dodsferd are a band from Greece that has been interviewed and had plenty of their music reviewed in this zine, that plays a very raw, hateful and depressing form of black metal and this is a review of their 2008 album "Death Set The Beginning Of My Journey" which was released by Moribund Records during the year of 2008.

Drums alternate between slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of blast beats, while the bass playing has a very dark and raw tone which follows the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars mix slow, mid paced to fast raw and depressive black metal riffs together with a punk edge being used at times, while the lead guitars are very primitive sounding black metal guitar solos.

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams mixed in with some suicidal cries, while the lyrics cover hateful and suicidal themes, as for the production of this album which was recorded at Studio 5 in February of 2008 and mixed and mastered during July of the same year it has a very dark and raw feel to it.

In my opinion this was another great album from Dodsferdd and if you are a fan of this band you probably already own this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Suicide Was Created By Your Incompetence" and "Death Set The Beginning Of My Journey". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Dodsferd/Suicide And The Rest Of Your Kind Will Follow/Moribund Records/2009 CD Review

  Dodsferd are a band from Greece that has been interviewed in this zine and has also had their previous split with Mortavatis reviewed here and the style they went for on this album was depressive sounding black metal and this is a review of their 2008 album "Suicide And The Rest Of Your Kind Will Follow" which was released by Moribund Records during the year of 2008.

Drums are mostly slow to mid paced drumming on this recording and there are no fast parts or blast beats, while the bass playing is very raw and follows the riffs that are coming out of the guitars with a distorted tone and effects being used at times.

Rhythm guitars are mostly slow depressive sounding black metal riffs with some soft playing being used at times mixed in with some weird avant garde guitar noise effects, while the lead guitars have a very dark and weird vibe to them and are not to overdone with a lot of guitar solos with the music focusing primary on rhythm's.

Vocals are high pitched depressive black metal growls and screams, while the lyrics cover suicidal themes, as for the production on this recording which was recorded in the beginning of 2008 at Encore Studios sounds very dark, raw and primal which is the perfect mix for this music.

In my opinion this is another good release from Dodsferd and the 2 songs presented on this album show a more slower and different side of Dodsferd, if you like slow and depressive black metal you should check this album out. RECOMMENDED BUY.

Dodsferd/Mortovatis/Until Your World Go Down/Moribund Records/ 2010 CD Review

  This is a split album between two bands from Greece, Dodsferd who has been interviewed before in this zine and Mortovatis, this album came out on Moribund Records in 2010 and we will start of the review with Dodsferd,

Dodsferd plays a very primitive and raw, hateful, depressing form of black metal that has a slight punk edge.

Drums are mostly fast with a lot of brutal blast beats, while the bass playing has a very powerful distorted tone with a punk edge.

Rhythm guitars are mostly fast and primal raw black metal riffs with some slower and mid paced riffing that is very depressive and there are little to no lead guitars or solos present on this recording.

Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams with some deep growls being used at times mixed in with some depressive cries of pain, while the lyrics cover hateful and depressive themes, as for the production it is very raw sounding which is perfect for this kind of black metal.

Mortovatis are an experimental/drone/improv/black metal band and they close off the cd with their song having a lot of noisy and distorted effects mixed in with some slow and crushing drums and guitars with no vocals.

In my opinion this is a very good split with Dodsferd once again putting out great material and I am looking forward to hearing some more stuff from Mortovatis in the future. RECOMMENDED BUY.

1.Can you update us with what is going on with Dodsferd these days?
Dodsferd appeared in Sathanas in Gloriam Festival for one show this year approximately two weeks before and now I am working on new material!
Soon a Dodsferd 7” ep and a split cd will be released by Moribund records!

2.What were your goals with this project in the beginning?
Two ease the demons in my head!

3. Where did you come up with the name Dodsferd?
It found me! It was not my choice!

4.I know you have some other musical projects, who are they and how do they differ from Dodsferd?
Nadiwrath, Grab, F.W (Ex – Kampf), Mortovatis, Nunonbong…They are different in their way!

5.What was it that got you into black metal, and are you happy with the way the scene is now, or do you prefer the older days when the scene was more underground?
It was not for everyone! It was not for the masses and the group of people I hated! Happy? …and it should have stayed underground!

6.You have some interesting song titles, what inspires you when you write the lyrics?
The fucking human cunts and their pathetic existence!

7.What direction do you see the music heading into during the future?
More hateful and violent! More painful and sick!!! Not for the masses! That’s about my music! I don’t care about the others!

8.How would you describe the musical progress over the years?
It’s not about progress, it’s about hate!

9.What are some of your main influences as a musician?
Bathory, Burzum, Judas Iscariot, Iron Monkey, Sons of Otis, Bongzilla…

10.What are you listening to nowadays?
Sludge, doom, drown and a lot of black metal!

11.Do you have an interest in any Satanic or Occult philosophies, or are you just a misanthrope that hates life and humans in general?
I am Wrath from Dodsferd! Imagine whatever you want!

12.What are some good films or literature that you would recommend?
No recommendations!

13. Out of all the albums that you have recorded so far, which one are you the most satisfied with?
Nothing satisfies me at all!

14. How has the response to your music been so far in the underground metal community?
It’s out of my concern! You love it or hate it! I prefer to be hated!
