Avenger/Bohemian Dark Metal/Deathgasm Records/2012 CD Review

Avenger are a band from the Czech Republic with a history of being around for 20 years that plays a very of dark metal that combines evil sounding black metal with doom metal as well as some darker death metal and this is a review of their 2012 album "Bohemian Dark Metal" which was released by Deathgasm Records.

Drums range from slow to mid paced drumming with some fast playing and blast beats, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars, as for the synths which are only utilized briefly they bring a very dark and avant garde sound to the music.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast riffs that combine evil sounding black metal with dark, doom and death metal with a great amount of dark sounding melodies being thrown into the music and there are little to no guitar solos or leads present on this recording except for the last song it is a very raw and chaotic sounding black/death metal guitar solo, as for the classical guitars when they are utilized they use finger picking to enhance the darkness of the music.

Vocals are a mixture of grim and high pitched black metal screams with a brief use of deep growls being utilized on one song as well as a few seconds of clean singing in addition there is a brief spoken word part being used on the last song, while the lyrics are written in their native tongue with themes that cover anger, anti christian and dark thoughts, as for the production it has a very dark and heavy sound to it.

In my opinion Avenger are a very great sounding black/dark/doom/death metal hybrid and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fales a apatie" "Umirani zivotem" and "Dark Metal". RECOMMENDED BUY.
