Elysium are a 1 man band from Argentina that plays a very raw and melodic form of black metal and this is a review of his self released 2013 album "Under The Fading Rays of the Dying Sun".
A very old school and melodic Swedish style black metal sound starts off the album along with some grim sounding high pitched screams and the music also speeds up at times along with some programmed blast beats and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and after awhile acoustic guitars are added into certain sections of the recording.
On the other tracks you can hear more fast and raw parts being mixed in wit h a melodic black metal sound and when guitar solos and leads are added into the music they enhance the melodic qualities of the recording and are a perfect match for the guitar riffing and there is a brief use of spoken word parts on one of the t racks and they have a very ritualistic and occult feeling to them.
Melodic Swedish death metal elements are mixed in wit h the black metal sound at times which also adds in a bit of diversity and there are also a few tracks that are past the 5 minute mark and it makes the album more epic and medieval sounding and towards the end you can also hear elements of blackened thrash being utilized in one of the songs along with a small amount of death metal growls and on the following tune rain and wind sounds are brought in briefly along with a small amount of classical guitars.
Elysium creates some great quality melodic black metal that is a little bit on the raw side with this album while also demonstrating a great amount of talent and skill with his music, the production sounds very powerful for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover trues and ancient cultures of the world along with a few lost continents.
In my opinion Elysium are a very great sounding raw and melodic black metal project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sacrificial Offerings" "Ultima Thule" and "The Lost Dominions Of Agartha". 8 out of 10.
