At Dusk are a 1 man band from California that plays a very depressive form of black metal and this is a review of his 2014 album "Anhedonia" which will be released in October by Broken Limb Recordings.
Dark sounds and keyboards start off the album and after a few minutes the music goes into more of a slow and depressive black metal direction along with some high pitched screams and after awhile more atmospheric sounds are added into the music and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
On the second song the music starts having more of a raw feeling as well as speeding up and adding in blast beats while the main focus remains more on a slow and depressive black metal sound which also sees melodic guitar leads becoming a part of the music along with a small amount of spoken word parts and on the third tracks the synths start having more of a powerful presence on the recording and bring in elements of ambient music before making a return back to a heavier musical direction.
At Dusk plays a very depressive style of black metal that mostly focuses on a slower direction while also bringing in a small amount of atmosphere and rawness at times, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover dark, depressive and melancholic themes.
In my opinion At Dusk are a very great sounding depressive black metal project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Agonia" and "Melancholia". 8 out of 10.
