Funeralbloom are a band that plays a mixture of dark ambient and post black metal and this is a review of their 2014 cassette "Petals" which was released by Broken World Media.
Drums beats and distorted ambient sounds start off the cassette along with some clean playing which gives the recording a post rock and shoegaze feeling as well as adding in some spoken word parts that are also used later on during the album as well which leads up to be of a fast and raw black metal that also bring s in a good amount of blast beats and high pitched screams and all of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
The band bring s in a good amount of slow, mid paced and fast parts and brings in some melodic vocals that have an old school gothic/death rock feeling to them which they also mix in with the post rock and black metal sides of the bands musical style and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and the band also brings in a good mixture of both clean and heavy parts.
The solos and leads the band uses are in a very melodic post rock musical direction and you can also hear synths being utilized in certain sections of the recording which also bring in the elements of dark ambient while the heavier parts also start bringing in more of an atmospheric black metal feeling as the recording progresses.
Funeralbloom takes the atmospheric and post black metal genres and adds in a good amount of shoegaze, goth and dark ambient elements to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover poetic themes.
In my opinion Funeralbloom are a very great sounding mixture of dark ambient, and post, atmospheric black metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Black Shoes" and "Lust". 8 out of 10.
