Wounds are a 1 man band from Virginia that plays a very atmospheric form of black metal with elements of dark ambient and this is a review of his self released album "II (Decay)".
A dark ambient drone sound starts off the album and after the intro the music starts going for more of a fast and raw black metal sound that utilizes a great amount of blast beats and high pitched screams and the music also brings in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a good portion of the tracks being very long and epic in length.
At time s the music bring s in some experimental avant garde style melodies that are all done on guitars and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and a few tracks are also all instrumental and in the faster sections of the riffing you can see a very heavy 90's black metal influence being utilized.
Some of the tracks also have more deeper and demonic vocals that are over powered by the guitars and as the album progresses the music gets more diverse and some of the tracks also bring in a small amount of clean playing which also gives the music more of a dark ambience while some of the heavier riffs can be very melodic at times while the main focus remains more on a raw, dark and aggressive style of black metal and some of the alter songs also utilize a small amount of synths.
Wounds plays a style of black metal that is very dark, and raw while also being very diverse and atmospheric at times as well as creating an album that is very diverse yet always retains a grim and true form of the genre, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Esoteric, Death and Disembodiment themes.
In my opinion Wounds are a very great sounding dark, raw and atmospheric b;lack metal project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Exit Human Life" "Spiritual Entrapment (Revisiting my Place of Death)" "As I Wraith i Haunt these Desolate Woods" and "Treachery And Fear (Among The Pines)". 8 out of 10.
