This is a review of a split ep with Italy's Dementia Senex and Sedna called "Deprived" which was released by Drown Within Records and we will start off the review with Dementia Senex a band that plays a mixture of post, sludge and death metal.
Their side of the split starts off with post rock style clean playing and a few seconds alter the music gets more heavier and adds in more of a sludge metal sound along with some melodies and vocals that use both growls and screams and they also bring in a great mixture of both clean and heavy parts and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and there is also a brief use of blast beats and the song is 7 minutes in length, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover loss, human condition and personal struggles.
In my opinion this is another great sounding track from Dementia Senex and if you are a fan of post, sludge and death metal, you should check out their side of the split.
Next up is Sedna a band that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of post black metal and sludge.
Their side of the split starts out with clean yet distorted playing along with some drum beats a few seconds later and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and when the music speeds up it has more of a cascadian vibe along with a small amount of blast beats while the song still has elements of sludge in the slower sections, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding track from Sedna and if you are a fan of post black metal and sludge, you should enjoy their song.
In conclusion i feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of post black metal and sludge. 8 out of 10.
