Xalpen Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?
XALPEN: We stand for true Black Metal, In total devotion to the Black Arts, Shamanism and the work within spiritual gnosis. Music is our bridge through dimensions and to the absolute nothing. All pieces were developed with the conviction of our Satanic will, searching no mundane approach to our cult, neither to our temple. Working through flesh and soul, invoking and evoking many damnations and guidance, time and physical obstacles were on the way, alongside work between the hemispheres of this globe but finally this pre phasic manifest is done and ready to be exposed to your senses. Here is our link between our beliefs and the great Chaos. Canalization of our inner work and outer development. You must listen to it with your bleeding black heart wide open!

2.You have a mini-album coming out in September, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
XALPEN : Raw, furious, honest, diabolic melodies, aggressive drums, a trip into our spiritual legacy  … you can listen that it was made from dark pieces of our souls, isn´t a big budget behind that, anyway the sound in this mini album it reaches the point we were standing at that moment and reflex our compromise with the self-production on it. We tried to make as better we could under the circumstances, distance and time. No wimp computer machinery or studio fakes shit.

3.A lot of the lyrics deal with the Black Arts and Left Hand Philosophies, can you tell usa little bit more about your interest in Occultism?
XALPEN: The Unknown lays there, everywhere, challenging reason and madness, in the unlimited and formless oceans of the great Chaos. We must dive into it, despite fears and pseudo-creation laws imposed by deceivers. We also must learn from our Spiritual development and re-open old portals and teachings legacies that destroy our corruption and the chains that enslave us to this demiurgic dungeon full of mortal illusions. With full wrath, with full convictions, with knowledge as a weapon. Fearless we must approach to the occultism with high respect of ancient traditions and let intoxicate the flesh with the poisons of forbidden gardens. Those Kingdoms of forgotten wisdom are the archetypes of magnificent forces, emanations of the dark spiritual realm, are the connection between soul and spirit using the flesh as tool for many magical operations that you must perform to understand the significance of devotional retributions, where sacrifices take places and the horrors of the weak minded foolish turns against himself.

4.I know that the band was named after a goddess from the Selknam Religion, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?
XALPEN: As correctly you mentioned the name was taken from an Ancient archetype of underworld´s goddess of Selk´nam´s tradition. A bloodthirsty manifestation that rules over the great Ceremony, demanding both blood and souls as sacrifices to her abominable and uncontrolled presence. Also its contents the secrets of the old times and the forces of the mystical era, the territory or place of strong Shamans and the portal to the world beneath. A bridge between dimensions.

5.Currently, there are only 2 members in the band, are you planning on expanding the line up in the future or do you chose to remain a duo?
XALPEN: We started as a 2 members band and for now we must keep that way.

6.One member lives in Chile while another one lives in Germany, how does this work out in the recording process?
XALPEN: Isn´t really a big deal. We are very focused on what we are doing from the beginning and in our philosophy and under our perspective things are moving well. The recording process itself was a challenge for us, we didn’t have a single rehearsal before this recording. We have canalized as much we could the whole work we were standing at. When we decided to enter the studio, P. Gatica was our drum session demon in Chile, after he learned the songs he just infamous recorded it. With the drums, ready J.P. Nunez continued with guitars and vocals, also in Chile at Necrotic Studio. The physical distance between us it was an uncomfortable factor for the recording time process but we didn´t take it as negatively as it looked and we just continue with it. A. Lillo recorded bass and vocals in Germany. Piano suite was created and recorded in the Patagonia, a very South of Chilean soil by N. Varas. After that, we continue with the process of mix and mastering of our first material just here in Hamburg/Germany.

7.The demo is getting released through 'Morbid Skull Records', are you happy with the support that they have given you so far?
XALPEN: So far yes! Absolutely.

8.On a worldwide level, how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
XALPEN: First of all this we are doing is not for creating a fan base or something like that, is something very personal and with a high spiritual meaning and we will continue as it is, respectful as always in this true work. We really feel honored with approaches of true people by our side, night worshippers, Black Metal maniacs, those who have and understand the respect for what this music is about.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects that the members are a part of?
XALPEN: Are all going well, in every different band or musical project we are working separately it has our efforts and energy and that shows simply the consequence and respect that we already mention. Is the way we see the music we create, the art we support and the energies we worship.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
XALPEN: Where we have born and we will continue: Black Metal.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
XALPEN: Through the years, many bands. Influences at this age of life I can call simply “life remembrances” or sadistic pieces of this bloody puzzle. All bands what have being transgressing time with honesty and savage manifestations of sabbatical tunes has been an inspiration and a way of teachings since every one of us started listening metal. List of names is long but if we focus on today we will find few authentic acts around the planet.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

XALPEN: Walk the path of the Snakes, among the Dragon´s hordes and deep into the Realms of Death.
