Solfernus are a band from the Czech Republic that plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Neoantichrist" which was released as a joint effort between Satanath and Murdher Records.
Acoustic guitar playing starts off the album before going into more of a heavier musical direction while t he faster sections of the songs use a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats to give the songs more of a raw feeling along with the vocals being mostly grim and high pitched black metal screams.
When solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very chaotic yet melodic fashion while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as adding in whispers into certain sections of the recording and the songs also bring in a great mixture of both old school and modern influences.
Throughout the recording the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody while acoustic guitars also make a brief return as the album progresses along with all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them , some songs also mix in elements of punk and thrash as well as a few tracks introducing clean vocals and spoken word samples onto the recording, keyboards can also be heard briefly and the closing songs is long and epic in length.
Solfernus plays a style of black metal that is very raw and traditional as well as adding some old school energy into a more modern style, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover perdition, anger and anti Christian themes.
In my opinion Solfernus are a very great sounding raw and traditional black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ignis - Dominion" "Pray For Chaos!" "Once Upon A Time In The East" and "Stone In A River". 8 out of 10.
