Archivist are an international band with members from Austira, Germany, United States and the United Kingdom that plays an atmospheric form of post black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Construct" which will be released on April 26th by Halo Of Flies.
Ambient style soundscapes start off the album along with some clean guitars being added onto the recording a few seconds later which also adds in elements of post rock and after awhile the music gets a lot more heavier along with some screaming style hardcore vocals and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
During the faster sections a great amount of tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs a more raw feeling while the vocals also incorporate some black metal screams and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion and the song bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Melodic vocals can be heard at times along with the music getting more progressive while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and a great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length and they also mixed both the heavy and atmospheric parts together quite a bit throughout the recording and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly.
Archivist plays a musical style that takes atmospheric black metal and mixes it with ambient, post rock and a touch of hardcore to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism, Theosophy, Astronomy, Science Fiction and The Fall Of Mankind themes.
In my opinion Archivist are a very great sounding atmospheric post black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Birth Of Ire" "Scorched Earth Policy" "Witch Finder" and "Theosophical Digression... Artificial Intelligence". 8 out of 10.
