Radical changes in our lives will sure lead to even more radical changes in our music. Maybe a drastic line-up revision or genre shift… or the final death of this project. Only the future knows.
2.In December you have a new album coming out, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
We wanted to elaborate less and to feel more, while writing this last album. It is a thunderous and fast-paced version of our ceremonial war hymns, dried up from digressions and straight to the point, like the Italian tradition and the tradition of this genre require.
3.Some of your lyrics on the album have covered some pagan, occult and esoteric themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in those subjects?
Very few people really got what we are talking about in our songs, mainly because of the (desired) language gap (the lyrics are 100% in Italian), but also because of the narrow and difficult path that leads to the world I create.
It is the voice of our metaphysic, and collective subconscious, that we acquire studying lot of religious, historical and philosophical books from various traditions (Roman, Vedic, Nordic, even Pre-christian, existentialism, futurism, medieval poetry, classic greek philosophers…), which solidifies in dreams, hallucinations and clairvoyance that transfigure the world we are living in.
4.What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored over the years with their music?
Like I said above, our weltanschauung coagulate in its entirety in the lyrics of our songs, creating a strange but coherent synchronicity, which is our religion and faith, and the voice of our souls. Getting precisely the topic and the subject of our songs requires a really wide background, both in studies and in life experiences, that is not for everyone. I think that not everyone deserves to hear my nude thoughts and the voices that float in my head, and even if everybody can hear the music and the notes we play, the lyrics are a well hidden jewel that only a fellow traveler can get. However, it is not totally impossible to get our lyrics, even for a non-italian audience (a guy from eastern Europe last year put in the net a translated version of one of our most intelligible songs, in English), and if you succeed then… well, I think you will have a nice trip.
5.The band has been around since 2003 and with an exception of a couple of unreleased demos the band waited until 2014 to put out a public release, can you tell us a little bit more about the earlier years?
Even if obviously the experience made us sharper and quicker, our flow and energy and how it manifested in our music, is very similar, and did not changed much. If we wanted to do something, and we were not able to, we learnt how to and then did it. Step by step, with a huge will to create something more and more perfect in our vision.
We were really intelligent and talented; of all the bands of our area, we were the only who could achieve total auto production, and the only one that not only survived, but now it is under a record contract and it is going to publish the third full length. A spit on the face on everybody that underestimated us back then.
We rehearsed a lot, and recorded really a lot, with lots of experimenting with equipment, production and genres. Also we took lot of advantage from Mazari Al-Sharif Afghanistan, the golden seal one. It was fun.
6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Nova'?
The small town that saw the birth of all the members of the band, was called “Nova Entia”, which means “the New Land”. We took the name from it, but we like also the other feelings that this word evokes; “nova” in Latin means “new things”, like the weird changes and novelty we want to instill in our music… It is also a name that evokes the feeling of stars, spaceships made of fire, that fly quietly through astral planes, from which we come from, and we will return.
7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
Like the lyrics, our imagery is very meaningful and revealing of the forces that lead and sustain us. They are so clear for the eye of a brother, that don’t need be spoiled to a casual listener. We can say that the cover perfectly embodies the album title: it represents us, the ones that come from the sky.
8.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
Our priority is to compose music. To bring it on a stage is something secondary, that is solely derivative. Our music is somewhat appealing performed live, even if I have to understand if the most interesting part of it is accessible on this context or not. The choice of playing live came out almost accidentally. As a game... I’m rarely satisfied with concert experiences even from the point of view of the viewer.
For sure, I’d usually expect something more from a live situation that should gather kindred minds that want to enjoy warrior-music. The Russians are really ahead of us from that point, with interesting choices like concerts with no alcohol or cigarettes, and conferences.
9.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?
No…
10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
For us any reaction would have been interesting, since we recorded and produced already from years, but never released nothing except some homemade copies to strict friends. It has been nonetheless good, despite the fact that we play such strict genre with lyrics in a language not spread at all.
11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
As I was anticipating in the beginning, the future is unknown.
12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
We have various influences beyond metal or rock music, which in every case we consume avidly since the youngest age. I don’t follow much what is going on right now, at least not in metal music, strictly listening the old classic stuff, which is always a goldmine. We always have listened also to lot of electronic music (psychedelic trance, chill-out, speedcore…), neo folk, classical music, psychedelic rock, experimental, pop and dance and various others.
