Moonfall are a duo from Finland that plays a very old school and occult form of black metal with elements of doom metal and this is a review of their 2025 album "Odes To The Ritual Hills" which will be released in April by Iron Bonehead Productions.
Atmospheric sounding synths start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams mixed in with a few growls while the bass guitars have a very dominating sound throughout the recording and elements of doom metal are also added into the slower sections of the sogns.
Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the early 90's era while a couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Clean playing can also be heard briefly along with the recording also having its ritualistic moments and the whole album also sticks to a slower musical direction.
Moonfall plays a musical style that goes back to the early 90's era of occult black metal and mixes it with doom metal to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover Satanism and Occultism themes.
In my opinion Moonfall are a very great sounding old school occult black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Countess Carody". 8/5 out of 10.
