Yellow Eyes/Monvment/Sol y Neize/2012 Split Cassette Review

This  is  a  review  of  a  split  cassette  between  New  York's  Yellow  Eyes  and  Illinois's  Monvment  both  of  whom  are  bands  that  have  been  featured  in  this  zine  with  the  split  being  released  by  Sol  y  Nieve  in  2012  and  we  will  start  of  the  review  with  Yellow  Eyes  with  their  musical  style  being  a  raw  and  primitive  form  of  post  black  metal.

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  post  black  metal  riffs  that  are  very  heavy,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  with  some  old  school  influences  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  at  times,  while  the  lead  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  are  very  dark  sounding  post  black  metal  guitar  leads.

Vocals  are  all  high  pitched  black  metal  screams,  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophical  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  heavy,  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  both  of  their  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Yellow  Eyes  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  primitive  sounding  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  Solid  Chime  Of  Matching  Bone  With  Harder  Strength".  RECOMMENDED.

Next  up  is  Monvment  which  continues  their  experimental  and  atmospheric  approach to  raw  and  primitive  sounding  black  metal.

Drum  programming  ranges  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  beats,  while  the  synths  and  effects  bring  the  experimental  sounds  to  the  music,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  black  metal  riffs  that  are  very  raw  and  primitive  sounding  while  also  adding  in  more  melody  to  the  riffing  this  time  around,  while  the  lead  guitars  which  are  only  used  briefly  are  very  dark  sounding  black/doom  metal  guitar  leads.

Vocals  are  all  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams,  while  the  lyrics  cover  duality  and  mysticism,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  both  of  the  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Monvment  who  also  have  the  best  music  on  this  split  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental  and  atmospheric,  raw  and  primitive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Gaping  Orifices  In  the  Floor  of  Heaven/Milchama(Relieve)".  RECOMMENDED.

In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental,  post,  atmospheric  and  primitive  black  metal,  you  should  add  this  to  your  collection.  RECOMMENDED.
