Agathos are a band from Spain that plays a very raw and nihilistic form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2018 ep 'Nihil Est".
Atmospheric soundscapes along with some spoken word parts start off the ep while acoustic guitars can also be heard briefly before going into a heavier direction which also introduces melodic guitar leads onto the recording as well as the faster sections of the songs bringing in a great amount of blast beats.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the vocals are mostly angry black metal screams along with the riffs also bringing in a decent amount of melody and when tremolo picking is utilized it gives the songs a more raw feeling as well as a couple of the tracks being long and epic in length and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and acoustic guitars also make a brief return as the ep progresses.
Agathos plays a style of black metal that is very raw, misanthropic and nihilistic sounding, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover nihilism and misanthropy themes.
In my opinion Agathos are a very great sounding raw and nihilistic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nihil" and "Thanatos". 8 out of 10.
