Fragmentary Solid Abyss are a solo project from New York that plays a very raw and melodic form of black metal and this is a review of his 2024 album "Concerto Pavor Nocturnus" which will be released on December 20th by WormHoleDeath Records.
Dark soundscapes start off the album before going into more of a heavier direction while the solos and leads are also done in more of a melodic style. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Keyboards are also added on some of the tracks while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the album more of a raw feeling. The recording also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and there are also a couple of instrumentals, Turkish and Middle Eastern style folk instruments can also be heard briefly.
Fragmentary Solid Abyss plays a style of black metal that is very raw, melodic and lo-fi sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover spirituality and mysticism themes.
In my opinion Fragmentary Solid Abyss are a very great sounding raw and melodic black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The King's Feast" "Deep Gaze Into The Flames Of Hell" and "Pain of Existence". 8 out of 10.
