Gravethorn are a duo from Las Vegas, Nevada that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very aggressive mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2024 album "Atrocitas" which will be released on December 21st by WormHoleDeath Records.
Bells, ritualistic chants and high pitched black metal screams start off the album before going into a very fast, raw and brutal direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats while death metal growls are also utilized at times and the solos and leads are also done in a very chaotic style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while all the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. When keyboards are utilized they also give the songs more of an atmospheric feeling along with the riffs and leads also adding in a decent amount of melody.
Clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with one song also adding in a brief use of spoken word parts, a couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and the album closes with a cover of Metallica's "Creeping Death". The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover atrocities, war and battle themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Gravethorn and if you are a fan of black and death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Atrociatas" "Destined To Burn" "Hymns Of Forbidden Places" and "Victory By Sunrise". 8 out of 10.
