Serpentum/Progenies Of Poisoned Light/2026 EP Review

  Serpentum  are  a  band  from  Australia  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  misanthropic  and  depressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2026  ep  "Progenies  Of  Poisoned  Light".

  Spoken  word  samples  which  return  on  later  tracks  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  vocals  are  depressive  black  metal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when t hey  are  utilized  and  the  music  brings  in  a  very  modern  approach  to  the  genre.

  On  this  recording  Serpentum  continues  to  expand  on  the  modern,  misanthropic  and  depressive  style  of  black  metal  that  they  introduced  on  their  previous  release.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Depression.  Mianthropy,  Occultism  and  Satanism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  an other  great  sounding  recording  from  Serpentum  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  misanthropic  and  depressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Burial  mask  of  A  Dying  God"  and  "Exile".  8 out  of  10.
