Signalfeide/Occupation Poetry/Floodgate Moods Productions/2014 EP Review

U.S.A  and  Norway  duo  Signalfeide  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  with  the music  being  a  mixture  of  lo-fi  black  metal  and  dark  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  ep  "Occupation  Poetry"  which  was  released  by  Floodgate  Moods  Productions.

Acoustic  guitar  playing  starts  off  the  ep  and  a  few  seconds  later  elements  of  ambient  are  added  onto  the  recording  and  you  can  also  hear  some  distorted  electric  guitars  being  utilized  in  the  background  and  on  the  second  track  the  guitars  get  louder  and  you  can  also  hear  traces  of  harsh  noise  and  psychedelic  music.

When  vocals  are  added  into the  music  they  kind  of  have  a  whisper  style  tone  to  them  while  they  also  help  bring  in  more  of  a  black  metal  feeling  while  the  acoustic  guitar  remain  a  huge  part  of  the  recording  and  they  also  add  in  progressive  music  elements  along  with  a  track  that  is  over  7  minutes  in  length  while  the  later  tracks  still  have  a  black  metal  influence.

Signalfeide  creates  a  very  original  style  on  this  ep,  while  the  music  still  has  it's  black  metal  roots  the  music  still  goes  for  more  of  an  experimental  direction,  the production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  lyrics  for  the  most  part  are  absent  on  this  recording.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Signalfeide  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Forces  Unleashed"  and  "Morals  Flogged".  8  out  of  10.

Sxuperion/Through Cosmic Corridors/Bloody Mountain Records/2014 CD Review

Sxuperion  are  a  1  man  band  from  California  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  atmospheric  form  of  black/death  metal  on  this  recording  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2014  album  "Through  Cosmic  Corridors"  which  was  released  by  Bloody Mountain  Records.

A  very  dark  and  ambient  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  drones  and  after  a  minute  the  music  starts  to  get  more  heavy  and  melodic  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  and  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times  and  when  solos  are  added into  the  music  they  have  a  very  melodic  and  blackened  feeling  to  them.

There  is  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  present  throughout  the  recording  along  with  the  guitars  bringing  in  some  melody  at  times  along  with  spoken  word  samples  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  ambient  and  atmospheric  parts  are  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  parts  throughout  the  recording.

On  some  of  the  later  tracks  the  black  metal  elements  of  previous  recording  do  make  a  return  at  times  while  the  main  focus  remains  more  on  an  atmospheric  death  metal  sound  and  one  of  the  later  tracks  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  melodic  Gregorian  chants  while  another  one  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  thunder  sounds  which  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  ambient  style  synths.

Sxuperion  changes  the  musical  style  this  time  around  creating  more  of  an  atmospheric  and  ambient  style  of  death  metal  while  you  can  still  hear  some  black  metal  elements  in  the  music  at  times,  the  production  sounds  very  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Scientific  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  album  from  Sxuperion  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black/death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Purulent  Spiritual  Intersteller Void"  "Advance  Matter  Drive  For  Eccleslastical  Dust"  and  "Virulent  Arrival  Of  Demonic  Hyper-Space  Denomination".  8  out  of  10.

Witchclan/The Dark Binding/Elvestor Records/2014 CD Review

Witchclan  are  a  1  man  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  plays  a  very  raw  style  of  black  metal  he  calls  'bestial  hell  metal'  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2014  album  "The  Dark  Binding"  which  was  released  by  Elvestor  Records.

A very  dark  and  evil  sounding  intro  starts  off   along  with  some  spoken  word  ritualistic  parts  and  after  the  intro  a  very  powerful  sounding  bass  guitar  starts  to  kick  in  along  with  some  heavier  parts  and  melodic  guitar  leads  which  also  leads  up  to  more  of  a  fast  and  raw  black  metal  sound  along  with  some  grim  and  demonic  screams.

Blast  beats  and  synths  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  early  90's  and  at  times  death  metal  growls  are  utilized  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  amount  of  melody  in  the  guitar  riffing  at  times.

At  time s the  music  is  very  heavily  thrash  influenced  and  all  of  the  tracks  ignore  any  of  the  modern  trends  that  have  been  a  part  of  the  genre  for  the  last  20  years  while  the  music  still  can  be  very  atmospheric  but  done  in  more  of  an  old  school  tradition and  every  track  sounds  very  different  from  each  other  while  you  can  still  it  is  the  same  artist  performing  all  of  the  tracks.

Witchclan  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  dark  and  raw  and  all  the  songs  sound  like  they  could  of  easily  been  recorded  and  released  in  the  90's  and  the  keyboard  parts  that  are  utilized  also  go  back  to  the  days  when  they  still  sounded  evil  in  black  metal  but  the  main  focus  is  on  the  guitars  and  grim  vocals,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  you  can  still  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  anti  religion,  misanthropy  and  occultism  themes.

In  my  opinion  Witchclan  are  a  very  great sounding  raw,  old  school  occult  black  metal  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Worms  Of  Hypocrisy"  "Dawn  Of  The  Serpent  Kings"  and  "Neverending  Funeral".  8  out  of  10.
