Chemical Cascades are a band from Australia that plays a atmospheric form of black metal with death metal influences and this is a review of their self released 2013 demo.
"Noetic Contempt" which is also the intro for the demo opens up with dark sound effects along with some melodic chanting.
Ad Astra" the first real song on the demo begins with tribal style drum b eats before adding in fast black metal guitar riffs along with some blast beats which also lead up to some grim vocals along with some melodic guitar riffing before going into a mid paced direction and adding in some melodic guitar leads.
"Spine Of The World" opens up with raw and fast black metal guitar riffs along with some blast beats from the drums a few seconds later which also lead up to some grim vocals that utilize both deep and high pitched elements and after awhile the music starts adding in mid paced and slow parts along with a brief use of death metal growls and you can also hear melody in certain parts of the guitar riffing and towards the end the music speeds up again.
"Within The Clouds Of Brhaspati" begins with fast, raw and melodic black metal guitar riffs which also leads up to some blast beats from the drums and you can hear some deep growls in the background that later evolve into black metal screams and they song remains in a faster direction.
"Cosmic Winter" starts up with drums before adding in fast, melodic and atmospheric sounding black metal guitar riffs which leads up to some depressive screams which also leads up to some blast beats from t he drums before the music slows down a bit and adding in some thrash elements and you can also hear some deeper vocals in the background and then the music goes into a slower black metal direction while also adding in a small amount of death metal growls and towards the end there is a brief use of guitar solos and leads being utilized.
"Surface" which is also the last song on the demo starts up with raw black metal guitar riffs and drums and a few seconds alter black metal screams and melodic guitar leads start to kick in before going into a mid paced direction that also has a traditional metal feeling to it along with the guitar riffing utilizing some melody and towards the end the music goes into a faster direction along with a small amount of blast beats.
Song lyrics cover Occult and Science Fiction themes, while the production has a very dark, raw and primitive sound with some of the songs being long and epic in length as well as the bass guitars being mixed down low in the mix.
In my opinion Chemical Cascades are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal band with elements of death metal and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Spine Of The World" and "Cosmic Winter". RECOMMENDED BUY.
