Scour are a band from the United States which features members of Viking Crown, Christ inversion, Pantera, Down, Cattle Decapitation, Pig Destroyer, Continuum, and Strong Intention and the band plays a very raw form of black metal with elements of grindcore and this is a review of their self titled 2016 ep which will be released in July by Housecore Records.
A very fast and raw black metal sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats as well as some grim vocals while the riffs also bring in dark sounding melodies at times and after awhile aggressive screams are added onto the recording and the music also brings in a great amount of 90's influences.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they bring in a very dark and melodic style of black metal and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and on later songs elements of crust and grindcore are added into the music along with the vocals also using more growling style vocals and some tracks also bring in a more modern style of black metal. and the songs sound different from each other while one track also brings in a brief use of synths.
Scour plays a style of black metal that is very raw and aggressive while also adding in touches of death metal, grind and crust to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover dark a nd violent themes.
In my opinion Scour are a very great sounding raw black metal band with elements of grind and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out t his band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dipatched" and "Tear gas". 8 out of 10.
