Deliverance Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Etienne : Pierre and I formed the band 4 or 5 years ago. I first met him when I recorded his previous band and thought he had a great voice, perfect for a bunch of songs I had in mind. I sent him a couple of songs, roughly recorded with my guitar and he loved it. That's how it all began.

2.So far you have released an ep and a full length, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on both of the recordings and also how do they differ from each other?

Etienne : The songs on our first EP (Doomsday, please) are the very first songs we ever wrote and played together. These songs are the basis for our sound and personality. On our first full length (CHRST), we decided to go further : more heaviness, more ambient stuff, more black metal, more everything. We're really extremely happy and proud of how the record turned out.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Etienne : Pierre writes mostly about his views on religion and Christianity, as well as facing his own inner demons. And he has many ! He really digs far into his personal feelings and mind. He reads a lot of philosophy and literature, in which he finds great inspiration.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Deliverance'?

Etienne : There's no special meaning actually. I'm a huge fan of the cult movie Deliverance, that's all ! I always had the feeling that blackmetal and sludge would suite very well this movie...

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Etienne : we have done only a few underground shows so far, so I would say that the last show we did with Hangman's Chair at Glazart in Paris was a really cool one. We are still working on the visual aspect of our stage performances, so right now our shows consist of us five playing together and giving it all for our music and the audience, without any special artifact. The idea is to have the listener spend a captivating musical journey with us. But we'll definitely keep on working the visual aspect of our shows in order to bring a special audio and visual experience

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?

Etienne : Yes we do. We have a bunch of shows here and there in France right now. Hopefully we'll be touring elsewhere in Europe as soon as possible.

7.The new album was released through 'Deadlight Entertainment' are you happy with the support that they have given you so far?

Etienne : Yes, we're really happy ! Alex is a devoted partner, and he really loves our music. He's a great help in having people discover Deliverance.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black, sludge and post metal?

Etienne : It's been quite good actually. We had great reviews all over the world with our first EP, so we hope people will like CHRST even more.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Eteine : With CHRST, I think it's pretty clear what Deliverance is about. We'll continue digging in that direction, the quest for the heaviest, blackest, most melodic and bewitching song possible is a never-ending one...

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Etienne : A lot of bands had a tremendous impact on our music. From Darkthrone to Watain, Morbid Angel's heavy riffing, Cult of Luna, Neurosis... Swiss band Unfold is also a personal favourite and has influenced me quite a bit. Just to name a few.

11,What are some of your non musical interests?

Etienne : Food and wine, as every good french men, haha !

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Etienne : Thanks for this interview, hope you'll like our record. Keep supporting your underground music scene.
