Ormagna are a band from Iceland that plays a very raw, melodic and epic form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2019 album which will be released in February by Signal Rex.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album while some of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody and dissonant structures while the vocals are done in a very angry black metal style which uses both shouts and screams.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them while the faster sections of the songs also use a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling along with the songs also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style and as the album progresses a brief use of clean vocals can also be heard on a couple of tracks.
Ormanga plays a style of black metal that is very raw, melodic and epic sounding, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Icelandic and cover dark themes.
In my opinion Ormnga are a very great sounding raw, melodic and epic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Haskiin i Seljunum" "Ormagna" and "Dansar saurs og saurlifis". 8 out of 10.
