This is a review of a split album between France's Simulacre and Archvile King which was released by Les Acteurs de L'Ombre Productions and we will start off the review with Simulacre a band that plays a progressive mixture of black and death metal.
Their side of the split starts out with some clean playing before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while all of the musical instruments on their side of the recording also have a very powerful sound to them.
Vocals are a mixture of black metal screams and death metal along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. At times the music also gets very progressive sounding as well as adding in a brief us e of spoken word parts, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style and clear chants are also added on the closing track. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in French and cover philosophical and metaphysical themes.
In my opinion Simulacre are a very great sounding progressive mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Tribus" "Myste".
Next up is Archvile King a solo project that was recently featured in this zine and on this recording plays a mixture of black and thrash metal.
His side of the split starts out with some melodic riffing and elements of thrash metal while all of the musical instruments on his side of the recording also have a very powerful sound to them. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also add in a great amount of melody and the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams.
The music also adds in influences all the way from the 90's to the modern era along with some back up shouts also being added in at times. When tremolo picking is utilized they also give the songs more of a raw feeling as well as the faster sections of the tracks also adding in some blast beats and throughout his side of the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, acoustic guitars and growls can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover historical themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Archvile King and if you are a fan of black and thrash metal, you should check out this side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Bastards Of The Sea" and "The Feast of The Worm King". 8 out of 10.
