Seltsame Erden are a band from Germany that plays an old school form of black metal and this is a review of their album "Gedeankentempeln" which will be released in 2024 by Chaos Records.
A synth orientated intro starts off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats. Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's era while a couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while a couple of songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as some tracks also sticking to a slower direction. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with some of the riffs also going into more of repetitive direction on one song, synths also return on the outro as well as adding in a brief use of ritualistic sounding spoken word aprts
Seltsame Erden plays a style of black metal that is very heavily rooted in the mid 90's era which they also update with a more modern touch. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and cover occultism, mysticism and philosophy themes.
In my opinion Selftsame Erden are a very great sounding old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Zwiegestalt" and "Tenebrae". 8 out of 10.
