Germany's solo project Erzfeynd has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a raw and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of his 2024 album "Fivrrist" which will be released by Van Records.
Clean playing starts off the album along with some operatic female vocals and synths a few seconds later which also takes the music into a heavier direction. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. Clear male vocals can also be heard briefly along with one song also adding in a small amount of hurdy gurdy, throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style.
On this recording Erzfeynd brings out a very raw and atmospheric form of black metal that is very different from previous releases as well as adding in some session work from members of Stormlord. Grabenhuld, Ungfell, House Of First Light and Obsequiae. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and cover death, rebirth, endings and beginnings.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Erzfeynd and if you are a fan of raw and atmospheric black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Extra mvros" and "Himelvart". 8 out of 10.
