Palace Of Worms are a 1 man project from San Francisco, California that plays a very dark and hateful form of black metal with a funeral doom edge and this is a review of their 2010 album "Lifting The Veil" which was released by Flenser Records.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being thrown in at times, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times they sound very powerful, as for the effects when they are utilized they bring a very dark avant-garde ambient edge to the music as well as some synths being used on the last song.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very dark sounding with some melodic riffing and funeral doom influences as well as a brief use of clean playing being utilized on a couple of songs and there are little to no guitar solos or leads present on this recording.
Vocals are a combination of grim sounding and high pitched black metal screams mixed in with some mournful sounding cries as well as a brief use of demonic style vocals in addition there are a few seconds of clean singing being used on one song, while the lyrics cover death, hate, paranoia, and eschatology, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion Palace Of Worms are a very good dark sounding black metal band with a funeral doom edge and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "No Exit" "The Scroll Of Kimiris" and "Hellish Journey". RECOMMENDED BUY.
