Aura Mortis Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

Aura Mortis has been formed in late 2013, firstly as a one-man band. In this form, the band has released one demo (''Vast Perdition of Souls'') and a split album with Necro Forest, both in 2014.  After a while, Pakost joined the band as a vocalist and with this updated line up, we released another split album, this time with Tenebrositas in 2016. Our latest work is ''Proclamation of the Sardonic Flame'' EP which has been released on tape by Zly Demiurg Productions from Poland. There is a CD version of it coming in October through Mantratya Productions from Luxembourg too.

2.Recently you have released a new ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from your previous split's and demo?

The sound on our latest release is quite tenebrous, just as we intended it to be. The music is more intricate than on the previous releases and that is due to the fact that there was a progression in composing. As we improve, our music improves as well. However, in general, the previous releases have all followed the same theme of the band, even though they don't sound alike.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

The lyrics worship the final Death of all life through the might of the horned One. He has many forms and names, but there is only one aim.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Aura Mortis'?

The feel and stench of total Death.

5.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

For this time being, the line up won't change. There have been plans of adding a drummer for a while now, but we can't find any suitable individuals for that position.

6.You have also shared splits with 'Necro Forest' and 'Tenebrositas', how would you compare your musical style to theirs?

Both bands are great and it was a pleasure doing those splits. They are a bit more raw and minimalistic in sound than Aura Mortis is, however, and that suits them really well. Cold, skinfreezing sound.

7.The ep was released on 'Zly Demiurg', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

Zly Demiurg is, although small, one really dedicated and reliable underground label. The communication was great and fast, and everything we intended for the EP has been fulfilled by them. Hails to N. and D. !

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

Not that big, to be honest. I can see that there are some people in the countries abroad that listen to our band, but it's not that widely spread.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that the band members are a part of?

Right now, I'm working with my other band INFERNALI GLORIA. We're preparing an EP and I'm really satisfied with our new hymns. I also have a new band coming soon. It's a bit in the old school vein and our debut release is almost done, but I won't share any more info about it. Pakost, on the other hand, is much busier than I am on this behalf. His main band, CRNOBOG, is preparing something completely dark and crushing. Keep an eye out for this cult, as it was about time it woke up from its slumber! He also plays with FLESH CULT, a maniacal black thrashing machine. They're preparing some new songs which are completely sadistic. And he also plays guitar in REDENIK. They're releasing their debut album called ''Nekrografija'' soon. Expecting nothing more than bone cracking tunes on that one.

10.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

There are already some ideas for our debut full length, but we're not in a hurry or whatever, so I can't tell when it will be done. We're only writing when the time is right, when we are touched by Darkness.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

There are many, many artists that have influenced us. Now, black metal is our primary genre and we draw inspiration from it, but there is also old heavy metal, thrash, death and everything that isn't overhyped garbage that a lot of people tend to follow these days.

12.Does Satanism or Occultism play any role in your music?

See the question #3. Yes they do, by a great part. We have a subjective view on these topics and they are showcased in our lyrics.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thank you for the interview. You can order our new EP here: https://zlydemiurg.blogspot. com
