Scarificare are a band from Portugal that plays a music style they refer to as gnostic black metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Tilasm" which will be released in April by Helldprod Records.
A very heavy and old school sound starts off the album along with some black metal screams a few seconds later while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a great amount of blast beats along with some elements of death metal as well as clean vocals also being added on a few of the tracks.
Acoustic guitars are also used on some of the tracks while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them along with the riffs also bringing in a great amount of melody and when tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the songs a more raw feeling as well as a couple of the songs being very long and epic in length.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while synths when they are utilized gives the songs more of an atmospheric and ritualistic feeling along with the slower sections of the music being very heavily influenced by doom metal and as the album progresses a brief use of tribal and shamanistic drum beats can also be heard.
Scarificare plays a musical style that takes occult black metal and mixes it with elements of doom and death metal to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism, Paganism, Secret Orders, Science, Philosophy and Religion themes.
In my opinion Scarificare are a very great sounding occult black metal group with elements of doom and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Crystal Skull" "Occult Radiance" and "Consecration Of The Talisman". 8/5 out of 10.
