Germany's Tempers Creature have returned with a new recording which sows the music going into more of a a mixture of neo-folk, pagan and depressive black metal and this is a review of their 2018 ep "Der alte Mann und das Meer. Zehn Jahre schwbisch-heidnischer Musik" w hich was released by Heil'ge Heimat Klangschmiede" and consists of 5 original tracks and Amon Amarth, Nargaroth and Absurd covers.
Acoustic guitars start off the ep along with some elements of folk music while clean vocals can also be heard briefly while the melodic guitar leads are done with distortion as well as some drum beats also being used at times and some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
Once the music gets heavy and speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw feeling while the vocals also bring in depressive high pitched black metal screams along with the clean vocals bringing in more of a pagan metal atmosphere.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while nature and atmospheric sounds can also be heard briefly along with the music mixing the folk and black metal elements together at times as well as all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them, a couple of the tracks are instrumentals, death metal growls, keyboards and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly.
On this recording Tempers Creature expand on their depressive style of pagan black metal by adding in more neo-folk elements as well as bringing in cover tunes of bands that where a huge influence on them, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and cover paganism, depression, social issues and nature themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Tempers Creature and if you are a fan of neo-folk, pagan and depressive black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Meer" and "Seven Tears Are Flowing To The River".8/5 out of 10.
