Dominance Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?

We’re recording a new, shorter release as we speak, we’ve also played some gigs and have some more ahead of us.

2.In August you had released a new album, musically how does it differ from your previous demo?

The music got faster, but at the same time with more epic/viciously melodic parts. Other than that, it didn’t change much in my opinion, what we had in mind while making the album was just continuation of the style we started in the beginning of the band. The new release we’re recording now is a continuation on this path: the aggressive parts are faster and more aggressive, the epic ones more epic and dynamic.

3. A lot of the lyrics on the new album cover Elizabeth Bathory, Greek Mythology and Occultism, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these topics?

The music of Dominance is pagan, so it needs pagan lyrics, and the Greek mythos is the easiest one for me to write about, I just know it best, and besides I like it. About the song „Blood Countess”, it just came to me while we were making the music, that it ought to be about a wicked woman, it just sounds that way to me musically.

4.the press release also makes references to Carl Jung and Robert E Howrad, can you tell us a little bit about your interest in their work?

I’ve been reading some Jung, it’s scarier than Lovecraft. I don’t know anything about actual practice of psychoanalisis, but the system itself is totally metal lyrics material. But honestly, this is just inspirations for a few lyrics and this is probably gonna change to something else over time, but it’s the essence and vibe of the music that is most important to us.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Dominance'?

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of the women. Sodomize with steel.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

Our drummer Witchfucker is the author of the artwork, when he presented it to us, I think before we even went to the recording studio, we all felt that ok, we don’t have to worry about the front cover thing anymore. It just lets you know what’s waiting inside, in a very classy way in my opinion.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

I’m not gonna pretend that we don’t like packed shows, we’ve had a few in our hometown, and those were the highlights so far. In our stage performance, we focus on energy, I’m not saying we’re never gonna consider some kind of theatrics, but that’s not important to us at this point, the band-audience interaction is a secondary thing to us as well, we communicate through the songs.

8.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?

Sure, but it’s too early to be giving details at this point.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

Great, at the moment I’m writing this it’s been less than a month since the album release, and there has been a lot of feedback and almost all of it positive.

10.Are any of the band members currently involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?

Witchfucker, the drummer, is playing in another black/thrash metal band called GAROTA who released their debut album „Czarne wizje” last year, and I’ve been recently involved with a band called CZERNINA which is a more avantgarde/eclectic take on black metal, we recorded an album together that is in postproduction at the moment. Unfortunately I had to quit them due to lack of time, I’m just fulfilling some live commitments with them at the moment and then another guy is gonna step in. Recommending both them and GAROTA, though.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We’re not planning any drastic changes in sound nor approach, for now we’re just gonna keep doing what we do, but get better at it and keep it fresh.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles the band members are currently listening to nowadays?

We mostly listen to black metal really, maybe let’s say Hellcult would be the guy to discuss the Finnish scene with, Witchfucker the Polish one, and me the Greek one.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts/
