Scotland's La Mer has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of an experimental black rock direction and this is a review of his 2023 album "Tetrhedra" which was released by Godz Ov War Productions.
Keyboards start off the album along with some programmed beats a few seconds later clean playing and clear singing are also introduced before going into a heavier direction. Vocals are mostly high pitched black emtal screams and the mid tempo sections of the songs also add in touches of black'n'roll.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style while spoken word parts and whispers can also be heard at times. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the music also having its experimental moments and elements of industrial can also be heard on some tracks.
The songs also mix in some influences from more alternative styles of rock and metal along with the riffs also adding in a great amount of melody and the music moves away from the more folk influenced style of black metal from earlier releases, when the music finally speeds up a small amount of blast b eats can also be heard and shouts can also be heard briefly and the album closes with a Myslovitz cover. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover existentialism and the futility of existence.
In my opinion this is another decent sounding recording from La Mer and if you are a fan of black rock, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "To The End" "Patina" "Death Dogs" and "Where Sadness Lasts Forever". 7 out of 10.
