Srefa Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?

Answer:

We have started working on some new songs, while promoting the launch of Solstice. We scheduled some local shows, and hopefully will soon announce a few shows abroad.

2.You have a new album coming out towards the end of April, musically how does it differ from your previous ep?

Answer:

Since the previous EP we feel like we have a more concrete foundation of creating music together, understanding what works for us and what does not. We have experimented and combined a few new elements in our music, including incorporating clean vocals and pushing our existing style towards more extreme territories

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

Answer:

Srefa's lyrical themes mainly revolve around existentialism, inner struggles, and societal critiques. They explore the darker facets of the human experience, touching on themes like alienation, despair, and defiance against societal norms.

4.I know that the bands name means 'fire' or 'flame' in Hebrew, how does this name fit in with the musical style that you play?

Answer:

The name of our band carries deeper meaning than just 'fire'; it often conveys the intensity of an extreme blaze, evoking dark and intense imagery. This resonates perfectly with the overall mood and style of our music

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

Answer:

The album’s artwork was made by our vocalist, Dorin, who also wrote the songs’ lyrics and the album’s key elements. She also came up with the album’s name.

The album’s key elements deal with human sentiment and feelings while examining extreme mental situations in our day-to-day lives.

Therefore, Dorin created the artwork so it would express those key elements and both the poetic and literal meaning of its name, Solstice.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Answer:

One of our best shows in a DIY Punk festival in Israel, in the middle of the night on the shore. The atmosphere was electric and the crowd were insane. We really enjoyed this one and there’s actually a video footage taken from this event on YouTube.

Our shows are minimal in regards to props, corpse paint etc. We have a video art that plays in the background, and we lose ourselves in the music, hopefully along with the crowd.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?

Answer:

Yes, as mentioned previously, we have several plans in motion. We're scheduling some local shows, including a release show for the album and an opening slot for an international band, The Spirit. Additionally, we're actively working on securing opportunities for shows abroad.

8.On  a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

Answer:

Overall, the reaction to our music from black metal fans worldwide has been overwhelmingly positive. We're grateful for the support and encouragement we've received.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

Answer:

David, our guitar player, has some other bands and projects in different stages of making and releasing new music.

Matan, our bass player, has two more projects: The first is Neveloth (Death Metal), released an EP last November, will release a new single in May and start recording the next EP. Additionally, his project Defiled Embrace (Doom Metal) will start releasing new songs off the new album around June, and the album is to be released in September.

Dorin, our vocalist, has another band named Sight Welder, and their debut album is currently in the mixing process. She also participated in an EP by Israeli band Chochech, which will be released on April 10th.

Assaf, our drummer, has a band named Exore (Industrial-Stoner Rock) which releases a new single every month.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Answer:

At this point, we're open to various possibilities and are embracing the journey of musical exploration. While we aim to stay true to our current direction, we're also eager to push boundaries, both musically and thematically. The future holds exciting opportunities for growth and experimentation.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles the band members are currently listening to nowadays?

Answer:

Each member of the band has distinct musical tastes, encompassing a spectrum from old-school Black Metal to Post Metal and Electronic music. Our diverse preferences contribute to a well-rounded musical perspective and inspire the depth of our creative output.
