This is a review of a co0mpilation from the record label Terrutur Possessions called "Terratur Compendium" which consists of black metal bands and projects singed to their label and we will review each one song one by one.
Whoredom Rite brings us "Den Vrede Makt" a song from their new album which was recently reviewed in this zine which starts out with some clean playing before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and the music is heavily rooted in the classic Nordic tradition as well as being very long and epic in length.
Death Like Mass brings us "Sorcery Unbridles" which starts out with a very heavy and old school sound while also adding in some grim black metal screams. The faster sections of the track also add in some raw tremolo picking and blast beats along with the song also being more heavily rooted in a traditional style and synths can also be heard briefly
Bythos brings us "Wolves of Hades" which starts out with a very fast and raw sound while also adding in some grim black metal screams. Melodies are also added into a lot of t he guitar riffing along with the music also being very modern without losing any of the old school aggression. .
Diabolus, mecum semperterne! brings us "Gratias agamus domino infero deo nostro" which starts out with some organs and choirs before evolving into a very fast and raw black metal direction. The track is also very long and epic in length along with the vocals bringing in more of an angry style.
Enevelde brings us "Pandemonium" which starts out with a very dark, heavy and melodic sound before introducing angry black metal screams into the music. The song also brings in more of a modern style and production while the track mostly sticks to a mid tempo direction before speeding up and adding in some blast beats.
Nekyian brings us "Hevn" which starts out with some dark sounding synths and ritualistic soundscapes before evolving into more of a fast and raw direction which also introduces angry sounding black metal screams into the music while the songs also brings in more of a modern style and the track is also over 8 minutes in length.
Nachtheem brings us "Drift van Nostalge" with a very fast and raw sound that is very heavily rooted in the old school style mixed in with a lot of melodies. The track is also over 8 minutes in length while t he vocals add in more of a grim black metal style and the synths also add in some atmospheric touches, clear vocals are also added towards the end.
Krabol brings us "Perish" which starts out with a very heavy and melodic style before evolving into more of a fast and raw direction which also introduces high pitched black metal screams into the music. The track is also over 7 minutes in length and very heavily rooted in the old school tradition, synths are also utilized briefly.
Obscuration closes the compilation with "Violent Art" which was originally recorded in 1996 and also is over 11 minutes in length. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the riffs and solos also add in a lot of melody and they also mix in some raw tremolo picking and blast beats, synths and classical guitars are also added briefly.
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding compilation and I would recommend it to all fans of old school and modern black metal. 8 out of 10.
