Black Coven are a band from Austria that plays a satanic mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their self released 2025 ep "Tomorrow I Die".
Melodic riffing starts off the ep along with some acoustic guitars in the background before going into a heavier direction. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while spoken words can also be heard briefly and the faster sections of the songs also add in a lot of blast beats.
When tremolo picking is added into the faster riffing they also give the songs more of a raw feeling while the vocals are a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams. Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also being heavily rooted in the 90's era, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they also remain very true to an old school direction.
Black Coven plays a musical style that goes back to the early 90's era of black and death metal. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics are a concept album based upon a warrior's struggle in life, war and death and his final ascension to the infernal hall's of Satan's Empire.
In my opinion Black Coven are a very great sounding old school and satanic mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Tomorrow I Die" and "Enter The Empire". 8 out of 10.
