Gegenentwurf are a solo project from Germany that plays a very atmospheric and experimental form of black metal and this is a review of his self released 2025 album "Abgrund".
Drum beats and acoustic guitars start off the album while choirs can also be heard at times before going into a heavier direction. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style as well as most of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and the recording also has its experimental and avant garde moments.
Melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing at times while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly harsh sounding black metal screams along with the songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding as well as some acoustic guitars also being used briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in German and cover an imaginary abyss on the fringes of society.
In my opinion Gergenentwurf are a very great sounding atmospheric and experimental black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Unsichtbarer Nebel" "Richtigstellung" and "Versöhnliches Resümee". 8 out of 10.
