This is a review of a split album from California's Ash Borer and Fell Voices which was released by Gilead Media in 2011 and we will start off the review with Ash Borer a band that plays a very raw and primitive form of atmospheric Cascadian black metal.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of blast beats being thrown into the music, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast atmospheric Cascadian black metal riffs that are very raw and primitive sounding with a good amount of melody being thrown into the riffing as well as some clean playing, while the lead guitars are very melodic and atmospheric sounding black metal guitar solos and leads.
Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams, while the lyrics cover nature themes, as for the production it has a very dark, heavy, raw and primitive sound to it with their only song being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Ash Borer are a very great sounding raw and primitive atmospheric Cascadian black metal band with the best music on this split and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the recording. RECOMMENDED.
Next up is Fell Voices a band that h as recently been featured in this zine with a musical style that combines raw and primitive sounding black metal with drone and doom metal.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being utilized at times, while the sound effects bring elements of drone and dark ambient to the recording, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast atmospheric black metal riffs that are very dark, heavy, raw and primitive sounding with a good amount of melody being thrown into the riffing, while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding black metal guitar solos and leads.
