Nyctophobia are a band from Spain that plays a very dark and raw form of black metal and this is a review of their 2014 ep "Ritual II - The Will Of Darkness" which was released by Negra Nit Distro.
A dark sounding synth with intros starts off the ep and adds in a very ritualistic and occult feeling to the music and you can also hear some clean guitars being utilized in the background and after the intro the music starts getting more heavier as well as going into a more raw black metal direction.
Once the grim high pitched black metal screams kick in the music goes into a more fast and old school direction along with some blast beats and after awhile they bring in a mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as adding in a small amount of growls and all of the tracks remain true to a very fast and raw old school black metal sound and there are some dark sounding melodies and guitar leads being added into the music at times as well as some of the tracks being very long and epic in length and you can hear a small amount of clean playing and spoken word parts being used on one of the songs before the band returns back to a more heavy and raw black metal direction.
Nyctophobia play a very true and raw form of old school black metal which also evokes a very dark atmosphere while remaining heavy at the same time, the production has a very dark, raw and heavy sound while the lyrics cover Satanism, Luciferian, Occultism, Darkness and Cthulu Mythos.
In my opinion Nyctophobia are a very great sounding dark, raw and melodic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dead Tongues" and "Night Of Witchcraft". 8 out of 10.
