Las Casa Viejas are a band with members from both Germany and Austria that plays an atmospheric mixture of post black metal, sludge and doom and this is a review of their 2017 album "Goul/H" which was released by Alerta Antifascistca Records.
Field Recordings start off the album along with some experimental elements before adding acoustic guitars and spoken word parts and whispers onto the recording and after a few minutes drum beats are added onto the recording while the heavier riffs also incorporate a great amount of melody.
Grim yet depressive black metal screams are used quite a bit throughout the recording while the music also gets very avant garde at times as well as alternating between both clean and heavy parts along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them.
A great amount of sludge and doom metal elements can be heard in the bands musical style while most of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with some post rock influences also being utilized at times and all of the songs stick to either a slow or mid paced musical direction.
Las Casa Viejas plays a musical style that takes black, doom, sludge metal, avant garde and post rock and mixes them together to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in German and cover nature as an area open for projection and a desirable place with a capitalist system.
In my opinion Las Casa Viejas are a very great sounding atmospheric mixture of post black metal, sludge and doom and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Moribundus" and "Erinnerung". 8 out of 10.
