The Wake are an international duo with members from Romania and Germany that plays a very raw, traditional and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Earth's Necropolis" which will be released on September 29th by Loud Rage Music.
Heavy riffs that utilize a great amount of melody along with some atmospheric keyboards start off the album along with some melodic guitar leads and doom metal elements a few seconds later and on the second track grim black metal screams are added onto the recording and the music is heavily rooted in the 90's Nordic style.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs a more raw feeling while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them.
Some songs also bring in a small amount of spoken word parts and death metal growls while one of the tracks is very long and epic in length and at times the music adds in more of a depressive touch along with a couple of instrumentals and while the music is rooted in the old school style it still brings in a modern touch.
The Wake plays a style of black metal that is very raw, melodic and traditional sounding in the 90's second wave direction while also adding in some atmospheric doom metal elements, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion The Wave are a very great sounding raw, melodic and traditional black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Isolated Illusion" "Ship Of Hope" and "Trial Against Humanity". 8 out of 10.
