Aeolith are a solo project from Greece that plays a traditional form of black metal with some elements of dark ambient and this is a review of his 2017 album "Remnants Of A Future Past" which will be released in the autumn by Heathen Tribes.
A drone orientated intro starts off the album before adding in elements of dark ambient which is also mixed in with the heavier and melodic sections of the music while the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams along with a great amount of mid 90's influences and blast beats can be heard in during the faster sections of the songs.
When the music speeds up the tremolo picking gives the music more of a raw feeling while the synths also gives the songs a more atmospheric feeling and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion, a piano orientated prelude is also used before the two closing tracks and there is also a touch of eastern music influences.
Aeolith plays a style of black metal that is very traditional while t he synths and ambient elements gives the music a more distinct sound, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover metaphysical and mythological themes.
In my opinion Aeolith are a very great sounding ambient black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cosmic Mold" "Symbols Of An Alien Sky" and "Saturn Rings". 8 out of 10.
