Essence Of Blasphemers are an international duo with members from Germany and Ecuador that plays a very old school and satanic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Calyx Of Black Metal" which will be released on Halloween by Purity Through Fire.
Clean vocals and ritualistic beats start off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's second wave era.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the tracks also sound like they could of easily been recorded and released 25 years ago. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very raw, melodic and old school style.
The vocals also having their deep yet evil moments along with the riffs also adding in a small amount of dark sounding melodies and some of the songs and one song also introduces a small amount of synths and clean playing onto the recording, spoken word parts can also be heard briefly towards the end. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Satanism, Blasphemy, Anti Christianity and Black Metal themes.
In my opinion Essence Of Blasphemers are a very great sounding old school and satanic black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ritual" "Exalted Blasphemer" "The Satan pest" and "The Flames".8out of 10.
