Coniferous Swamp are a solo project from Finland that plays raw, misanthropic and nature orientated form of black metal and this is a review of his 2020 demo "Dead Forests Burning Hatred" which was released by Death Monument.
Female vocals start off the demo along with some acoustic guitars and soundscapes in the background before going into a faster direction. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams.
Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the classic European style while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. At times the music also captures a very lo-fi atmosphere along with some of the tracks also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, elements of noise can also be heard on the closing track.
Coniferous Swamp plays a style of black metal that is very raw, misanthropic and hateful sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover hate, melancholy, lost cultural hatred and destroyed old-growth forests.
In my opinion Coniferous Swamp are a very great sounding raw, misanthropic and nature orientated black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Birth Of Revenge Wanderer" and "Echo Of Lost Roots". 8 out of 10.
