North By The River Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the solo project?

Sure, My name is Stephan. I come from a frozen hell-hole named Winnipeg located in the center of Canada

I started this projected amidst the global pandemic as a way to keep myself occupied, and to explore a place in music I always admired.

2.So far you have released on full length and 2 demo's, musically how do they differ from each other?

i would say they only slightly differ from one another, though Sunce(sun) was the biggest leap, as it was the first release to feature keyboard sounds and some less realistic programmed drumming(haha)

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects that you have explored so far with the music?

there are no lyrics. I suppose the goal of this project is to ignite those primal feelings i believe us all to have, the sort of dream-like states that we only fathom through a small retical of our peception

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'North By the River'?

I didn't put too much thought into the naming of this project. Though i grew up next to the Red River in Winnipeg. A river that flows north.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album and demo covers/

sure. so, the cover of Mudrost was a photo taken along a forested pathway located at a monastery just outside of town, a place i worked at for many years.

Nula's Cover was a photo taken at a fork where the Red River and The La Salle River Meet.

Sunce's Cover was also taken at the red river, though a little closer to the inner city in -50 C

6.With this project you record everything by yourself, are you open to working with other musicians or do you prefer to work solo?

i definitely prefer to keep things to myself and will continue to do so.

Side note: the first album was recorded by my friend William only the demos are self recorded.

7.So far there is very little information to be found online about the musical project, do you prefer to keep a very low profile?

the music will reach who it is intended to reach. im not one for promotion.

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

nope.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

i dont think many people care. i also dont care very much. this music is written for my own interest and exploration.

10.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

i'll probably release a few more demos before ultimately moving on to my next musical venture.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

For the sake of ridicule, I will keep my influences a secret.

l’ve been listening to a lot of Raspberry Bulbs and Okkultokrati lately. Both have new releases that really come through for me.

I usually have some d-beat in the rotation also.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
