Durthang are a duo from Spain that plays a folk orientated form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 demo "The Winter Woods" which was released by Crush The Desert Records.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the demo along with some grim black metal screams a few seconds later while the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's era. Melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing as well as the songs also mixing in a small amount of folk music elements.
Keyboards can also be heard in some parts of the recording while a couple of the tracks are also instrumentals. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with a brief use of grim pagan style vocals and most of the music sticks to a mid tempo direction.
Durthang plays a style of black metal that also mixes in elements of folk music as well as being very heavily rooted in the 90's era. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Paganism, nature and the writings of J.R.R Tolkien.
In my opinion Durthang are a very great sounding folk orientated black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Rise From Winter Winds" and "Above the two Towers". 8 out of 10.
