Baneful Tongue are a solo project from Norway that plays a dissonant mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their self titled and self released 2025 album.
A very fast and brutal sound starts off the album along with a great amount of blast beats while dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing. Vocals are a mixture of high pitched black metal screams and deep death metal growls and the recording also has its dissonant moments.
A couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the album also adds in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with the tremolo picking in the fast riffing also giving t he music more of a raw feeling, clear chants can also be heard briefly and the guitar leads are also done in a very dark yet melodic style..
Baneful Tongue plays a musical style that takes the dissonant forms of black and death metal and mixes them together to create a s sound of his own. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness and damnation themes.
In my opinion Baneful Tongue is a very great sounding dissonant mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Rot of Belief" and "Divine Dissonance". 8 out of 10.
