Signalfeide are a band with members both from the United States and Norway that plays black metal mixed with dark ambient and this is a review of their 2014 ep "Fornjot" which was released by Floodgate Moods Productions.
The ep starts out with dark ambient drones and harsh noises and after the first song the music gets more distorted and goes into a more mid paced melodic black metal direction along with spoken word samples which also lead up to a small amount of blast beats and you can also hear psychedelic elements in the background.
On the following track they start bringing in acoustic guitars while also having distorted parts before returning to a more black metal direction on the following song and adding in a small amount of deep grim vocals which are mostly done in a whisper or spoken mode as well as having soft and heavy parts being mixed together and the last song is all ambient.
With this ep Signalfeide bring in a great amount of diversity and originality and while you can tell that black metal is one of their main influences you can also hear traces of dark ambient and other genres throughout this recording and this is a hard to classify band.
Song themes cover darkness and nature, while the production has a very dark, raw and lo-fi sound.
In my opinion Signalfeide are a very decent sounding mixture of black metal and dark ambient and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Miles From Home" and "Black Sun Insignia". 7/8 out of 10.
