Thy Flesh are a band from Greece that plays a very fast and melodic form of occult black metal and this is a review of their self released 2014 album "Thymiama Mannan" which was released by Odium Records.
The album starts out with a very heavy and dark sound along with some melody and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them which also lead to the music speeding up and adding in blast beats and grim black metal screams and vocals as well as mixing slow, mid paced and fast parts together and at times they also bring in ritualistic chanting.
When the band go into the second song the music gets more fast, aggressive and old school sounding along with melodies that have a Swedish black metal feeling to them as well as bringing in a mixture of clean and heavy parts and the band also brings in some brutality in certain sections of the recording and when they go into more slow and melodic parts the music starts having a more dark sounding atmosphere to it and I can hear traces of early Dissection, Ondskapt and Ofermod throughout the recording while the band is no no means a copy of them.
When the album gets closer to the find they bring in some movie samples and then go into a song that has the mid 90's black metal sound done perfectly as well as adding in some deep and demonic vocals and the last song is a ritualistic ambient piece with whispered spoken word parts.
Thy Flesh bring out a lot with their music with the way they mix some of the fastest and most aggressive elements of black metal with some of the more slow and melodic sides of the genre and they create an album that has an old school edge while also bringing in a little bit more of a modern touch.
Song lyrics cover Esoteric, Magick and Occultism themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and dark sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.
In my opinion Thy Flesh are a very great sounding fast and melodic occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Thymiama Mannan" "Rape Magick" and "Flagellum Made Catharsis". 8 out of 10.
