Morktar are a band from the United Kingdom that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very raw and misanthropic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Dark Years" which was released by Mordgrimm
Distorted sounding drones start off the album along with some high pitched screams which also leads up to more of a heavy and raw black metal sound as well as the screams getting a lot more grimmer and on the second track the music starts to go for more of a mid paced musical direction along with vocals getting for deep at times and adding in a small amount of growls.
As the album progresses the music speeds up at times and also brings in a small amount of blast beats while the main focus remains on mostly a mid paced direction and also only brings in a small amount of melody to create a very raw and necro style of black metal that is heavily rooted in the early second wave tradition and they close the album with some harsh noises.
Morktar creates one of the rawest sounding misanthropic black metal albums to be released in years with this recording and keeping everything very dark and very, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover misanthropy, paranoia, mental illness, suicide and death.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Morktar and if you are a fan of raw and misanthropic black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Worse Than The Plague" and "Painful Dark Death". 8 out of 10.
